About
"They’re more than simply a record company. They’re invested in a vibrant ecosystem of collaborative making - illustrators and designers, filmmakers and podcasters. They think about what music means and what work it can do within our communities, to bring us together, to celebrate our unique local stories and our most beloved places."
Karine Polwart

Founded in 2016, we’re an independent music company based in Sheffield, Yorkshire, releasing some of the finest modern-day folk music to come out of the British Isles.
But we’re also more than that.
We work with artists, organisations and brands to develop original creative ideas and activations, project managing them from concept to completion. We’re a self-contained production house – our experienced studio producers record, mix and master sound to world-class levels. Our management, A&R and publishing arm offers all the services to build the musicians we work with from aspiring hopefuls to globally relevant artists.
At any given time you might find our artists making field recordings on some windswept archipelago, preparing an installation piece for a festival, or performing onstage to a sell-out crowd at the Royal Albert Hall.
Our mission is to create an artist-led, sustainable ecosystem that prioritises creativity, community, and ethical business practices. At the heart of our work is a commitment to empowering and inspiring artists by providing R&D, production, and release campaigns of the highest-quality, alongside mentorship and career development opportunities. We strive to build a cooperative, community-driven approach that nurtures long-term artistic growth and audience engagement.
Our vision is to revolutionise how independent music operates, strengthening the connection between artists, audiences, and the industry. We aim to create a more resilient and sustainable future for folk and independent music by developing innovative working models, expanding capacity, and ensuring fairer, more transparent opportunities for creatives.
Through our work, we seek to inspire change, amplify minority voices, challenge outdated systems, support experimentation and creativity, and foster a thriving network of artists, listeners, and professionals who actively contribute to the evolution of independent music

Hudson was rescued in 2010 from a dog rescue centre in Chesterfield. It took him about 9 months to settle in and get used to living in Yorkshire but after that he never looked back. He has been credited with 'thanks' on lots of records as well as having had a tune written for him by Sam Sweeney 'Hudson's Hornpipe' for Bellowhead's 2010 album, 'Hedonism’, it also features on our own Bellowhead release 'Reassembled'.
With all the time Hudson spent in the studio, his experience of being at gigs and spending so much time around World class musicians, setting up a record label was the next logical step for this wonderful and much loved hound!
Hudson passed away peacefully in April 2021, he is missed greatly but his love and energy remains firmly rooted in everything we do here at Hudson Records.
