Mark Stoney
Mark Stoney (A.K.A Stoney) is a British musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and performer. To date he has released three solo albums and six E.Ps
Acclaimed for his shape-shifting eclecticism, sharp lyrics and classic melodies, Stoney first rose to prominence in the late 2000’s as an outlier among the “New Yorkshire” music scene (as the NME would label it). His homegrown indie debut The Scene & The Unseen became a much celebrated underground hit among fellow musicians and tastemakers on both sides of the Atlantic for its diverse and inventive style – genre-hopping with consummate ease from folk-tinged bedroom indie to trip-hop. He established a reputation as an accomplished live performer, touring and working alongside acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Jamie. T, Athlete & Laura Marling.
Following a performance at the SXSW festival & citing a need for “sunshine and change”, Stoney relocated to Austin, Texas where he set up home and studio with a small community of “quirky poet and painter friends” to work on new material.
During this time, he became a founding member, songwriter and guitarist of acclaimed “Dirt-Pop” band Bobby Jealousy who released two full length albums between 2012-2014. Stoney extensively toured both coasts of the U.S with the band, before parting ways to resume his solo work. Stoney’s next solo offering, More than Animals, struck a darker tone & proved a natural maturation of his diverse sound, refined with profoundly intimate lyrics and soaring melodic arrangements.
Since returning to his musical homeland of Sheffield shortly after it’s release, Stoney took a hiatus from performing to work extensively as a producer and collaborator for both emerging artists & established acts in addition to contributing songs to several Hollywood film & TV soundtracks.
2021 will see the release of new solo material completed with Texas-based producer Danny Reisch (Shearwater, Jesca Hoop, Other Lives) with collaborators including Jade Castrinos (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) and Franz Von (K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade)
