Hello,
Hope you are all enjoying the beautiful sunshine. We’re very happy to bring you this month’s exclusive from the wonderful fiddle player Charlie Wild. Charlie has shared with us demo’s from a project she has been working on, based around her Dad’s stories of working on the railway in the 1970s on the Isle of Wight.
The Railwayman and Other Stories
Tales from the Isle of Wight railway
"These tales from the tracks of the Isle of Wight Railway during the 1970s were written by my dad, who worked there in various roles for many years. I grew up hearing these funny, heartwarming and sometimes slightly shocking stories and asked him to write them down. The result was a very special book just for me, completed 6 years before his death in 2021.
This project is a retelling of my dad's memories set to music composed and performed specifically for each of the stories. I hope you enjoy this light hearted, beautiful collection of memories and music that people of all ages will connect with, smile at and hopefully have a good laugh about!
With heartfelt thanks to Arts Council England for their DYCP grant, Jonathan Hill Luthier for my unique stringed instrument created in 2024, the violin d'amore, and to my family for reading the stories.” Charlie
