Nicknamed "the Hendrix of the Kora", Seckou Keita has been celebrated for his ingenious tunings and virtuosity and praised as "one of the finest exponents of the kora". Performing all over the globe, he has captivated audiences at WOMAD, Hay, Glastonbury, Tokyo Jazz, Chicago World Music Festival, Sydney International, Montreal Jazz Festivals and many more collaborating with the likes of Damon Albarn & the Africa Express; Catrin Finch; Omar Sosa; AKA trio; Paul Weller. Seckou will be familiar to regular Hudson fans as a member of the incredible The Lost Words, Spell Songs.

‘Homeland' heralds a bold new direction for the kora virtuoso, who invites his audience to explore his Mandinka roots and the ancestral culture of the griots. A journey between past and present, tradition and modernity, in words and music, infused with traditional rhythms embracing Afro-pop, urban and hip-hop. Homeland features collaborations with the Daar J Family, poet Zina Edwards and Costa winning poet Hannah Lowe.

This month’s Hudson Club exclusive comes from Rowan Piggott, Rowan is an amazing musician, designer and sound engineer based in Sheffield! Known for his work with folk trio, The Wilderness Yet, and oldtime duo, Old Spot, Rowan grew up in the foothills of the Burren on the west coast of Ireland, surrounded by traditional music, and it’s this influence that shines through on these tracks. Leaning into the darker dronal qualities of his signature five-string fiddle and backed with a foot-powered shruti, The Slow Stream EP is a continuation of a theme developed in Rowan’s debut album Mountscribe (2018)
