We are excited to be able to announce The Young’uns Big Boro Bash! Come and help us celebrate 20 years of The Young’uns on 15th November with a day of activities, workshops, performances, singing and much more.

Featuring
• An evening concert with special guests
• The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff – rare performance of our critically acclaimed theatre show
• YTV – our Lockdown TV show returns for a one-off special, with an array of guests and fun features.
• Family concert – in which we’ll be joined on stage by local young’uns to perform our favourite songs we’ve written with primary school kids over the years

One night in Stockton On Tees, three teenagers heard strange sounds coming from the backroom of a pub. They went in. They heard people singing songs they’d never heard before. Songs without instruments. Songs in their accents. Songs about places they knew. Folk songs. They joined in. Because they were the youngest ones there by several decades, they were soon labelled The Young Uns.

20 years on they’ve carried their unfortunate name around the world, from Sydney to Vancouver, from Radio Tees to Radio 4, won three BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and gained a reputation for singing life-affirming songs of social conscience in immaculate three-part harmony. But as well as their 20th anniversary, Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle will each be celebrating their 40th birthdays on tour!

"Hi everyone, I’ve just finished a busy time of many different shows at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow! What a variety of music and people and a celebration of our worldwide musical community - the festival really lights up the darkness of Winter in the city.I was really lucky to have the opportunity to curate a special night of music, art, people, sharing and community at the festival where I performed the tracks from my album ‘Vent’ with the entire extended band. (Ian Carr on guitar, Sarah Hayes on Keys, flute, vocals, Joe Rattray on bass, Rachel Sermanni, Rachel Lightbody, Russel Stewart and Hector Shaw in the choir… the luxury addition of Brittany Haas on fiddle and Tom Gibbs on Clarinet!)The gig space was filled with art pieces created and crafted by local women / NB artists and some local DJs set the vibes before the live music started and through the interval. The feeling of inclusivity and community for women to express themselves and lift up one another was important to me for this event. The waulking songs which the music on my album is based upon were born of this need and for this purpose. It was so special to have Pippa Blundell, Gaia Jeannott and Terra Kin share their songs and individual performances too. I hope we can create more opportunities to hold events like this in the future! However the next run of performances of these tracks will be performed as a duo with Ian Carr across some lovely venues to some fabulous communities throughout the springtime! We can’t wait.” Laura

We kicked off the year with a Hudson Club exclusive from Lucy Farrell & Catherine MacLellan. Their offering was a gorgeous digital EP which is available to download and stream to our subscribers now. We’ve been busy lining up some brilliant artists for our club exclusives this year. If you’d like to join the club it is a great way to support our artists, kickstarting projects and fuelling their creativity.

Thanks to everyone who has come to say ‘hello’ at the mixing desk this year so far. It’s been great to meet so many Hudson supporters and club subscribers. If you fancy delving into our back catalogue, I’ve included a few favourites below to get you started.
