Welcome to Clifftown Sounds, the site which collects together the wider Clifftown project from M G Boulter. In 2021 musician and songwriter, M G Boulter, released the Clifftown album exploring the hidden histories and personal experiences of his home town of Southend-on-Sea, a seaside town on the north bank of the river Thames in Essex, UK. The project soon expanded to encompass a podcast series, essays, photography, EP and a unique soundscape commission in collaboration with the Focal Point Gallery. This site allows you to explore the full depth and range of Clifftown.

For his contribution to Focal Point Gallery’s experimental sound programme, M G Boulter created a new sound piece which merged field recordings of Southend life with musical interludes performed by the artist and collaborators. In doing so, the work creates a shared sound space of natural and humans sounds, described by Boulter as “a veritable rainforest of suburban wavelengths”.
