Salt House have been a mainstay on the folk scene for over a decade. The band’s reputation as thoughtful and innovative interpreters of both old ballads and contemporary songs has been solidified with acclaimed album releases and extensive touring. Described as a "gentle, lulling delight" by The Guardian, Salt House blend heartfelt vocal and instrumental interplay, offering listeners a moment of reflection and connection.
New songs that sound like they’ve always been here, ancient ballads woken up. Poems given melodies they’ve long deserved.
Salt House's sound is influenced by the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, Northumberland and Shetland, the respective homes of band members Ewan MacPherson (vocals, electric and acoustic guitars), Anna Hughes (vocals, fiddle, viola, tenor guitar) and Jenny Sturgeon (vocals, keys, guitar). They incorporate their natural surroundings into the fabric of the music that speaks of a shared love of place, people, and evolving tradition.
New album released on Hudson Records Autumn 2025.

Spafford Campbell - Open your palm — there it is: the morrow, held and released. Tomorrow Held is the visionary new album from Spafford Campbell, blending post-rock, jazz, chamber classical, and folk into eight immersive, mostly instrumental tracks. Fiddle player Owen Spafford and guitarist Louis Campbell, both conservatoire-trained, create textured, genre-defying music that demands presence. Following their acclaimed debut You, Golden and 2024's 102 Metres East EP, this project blazes a trail through ambient loops, processed fiddle, and experimental soundscapes. Echoing Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden and Bon Iver’s ethereality, Tomorrow Held is a spacious, transcendent listen — reflective, mysterious, and fiercely original.
New album released on Real World Records 1st August 2025

An all day event celebrating our 20 years together and our joint 40th birthdays!
Middlesbrough Town Hall - 15th November 2025
Featuring
• An evening concert with special guests
• The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff - rare performance of our critically acclaimed theatre show
• YTV – our Lockdown TV show returns for a one-off special, with an array of guests and fun features.
• Family concert - in which we’ll be joined on stage by local young’uns to perform our favourite songs we’ve written with primary school kids over the years
One night in Stockton On Tees, three teenagers heard strange sounds coming from the backroom of a pub. They went in. They heard people singing songs they’d never heard before. Songs without instruments. Songs in their accents. Songs about places they knew. Folk songs. They joined in. Because they were the youngest ones there by several decades, they were soon labeled The Young Uns.
20 years on they’ve carried their unfortunate name around the world, from Sydney to Vancouver, from Radio Tees to Radio 4, won three BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and gained a reputation for singing life-affirming songs of social conscience in immaculate three-part harmony. But as well as their 20th anniversary, Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle will each be celebrating their 40th birthdays on tour!
