Autumn Colours
Here at Hudson Records we're gearing up for our second birthday celebrations. And what better way to celebrate than with some more from the crew who got the whole thing started.
The Furrow Collective
Having kicked things off with 'Wild Hog' by The Furrow Collective back in 2016, we're now delighted to bring you their new album 'Fathoms', released on the 9th of November and available to pre-order from our shop now. Produced in Powys and Oxfordshire by Hudson's own honorary fifth-Furrow Andy Bell, Fathoms sees the group build further on their substantial reputation for breathing new life into traditional songs.
Karine Polwart
Before this, it is our great pleasure also to draw your attention to the imminent release of the new long-player from Karine Polwart with Steven Polwart and Inge Thompson. Polwart’s seventh release, Laws of Motion is the follow-up to 2017’s much-praised A Pocket of Wind Resistance, which earned Karine & co-writer Pippa Murphy a New Music Scotland Award, alongside nominations for the 2018 Scottish Album Of The Year & Radio 2 Folk Album Of The Year.
A Pocket Of Wind Resistance' used the migratory habits of geese to crack open universally human societal & ecological issues. Across 'Laws of Motion' Polwart continues to coalesce the familial and the familiar alongside the unsettling and the unknown, driven as ever by her gift for empathy and accessibility. Subject matter as disparate as Trump, WW2 & holocaust survivors are drawn together by the laws of the album's title alongside the experiences of migrants and allegorical folk & children's stories. 'Laws Of Motion' was recorded alongside long-term collaborators Inge Thomson (accordion, percussion, synths & vocals) and brother Steven Polwart (guitars & vocals). It is released on 19 October and is available to pre-order from the shop now on CD and vinyl.
Northern Flyway
Inge Thompson has also been collaborating with Jenny Sturgeon and Jason Singh resulting in the magnificent and widely acclaimed Northern Flyway, which was released on Hudson Records in September.
“An album of panache, Northern have done for nature and the birds what Vivaldi did for the seasons” Liverpool Sound & Vision
To accompany their releases both The Karine Polwart Trio and The Furrow Collective will be out on tour this autumn. Check their artist pages for full details.
